We’re already at Week 4 of the Riley Blake Designs Block Challenge, and this week’s block is such a fun one! The block is called Ribbon Star, designed by Fran Gulick of Cotton and Joy, and it’s one of those blocks that really makes you stop and admire the design as it comes together.

Ribbon Star has such a creative, unique layout—those angled pieces really do feel like they’re wrapping and weaving their way through the block like ribbons. It’s a great example of how a classic star can be reimagined in a fresh, modern way, and I loved watching it take shape as I sewed.

For my version, I stayed in my happy place with soft, warm peachy tones, soft blues, and a mix of basics. I used Sparkler Apricot, Blossom Peaches n Cream, Dainty Daisy Songbird, and Stargazer. The combination gives the block a gentle glow while still letting all those fun shapes stand out. I especially love how the RBD Basics add a little texture and movement without overpowering the design.

I’m really enjoying seeing how all of the blocks are starting to work together as the challenge continues. Each week brings something different, and this Ribbon Star block is such a standout addition to the quilt. If you’re sewing along, I’d love to see your version—every color palette gives this block a completely different personality!
