The 2025 RBD Block Challenge Block 2 is here and today is my block! I’m so excited to show off my Around the Corner Quilt Block!

This block is so fun to sew! It has several rows of fabrics to make a really fun design, I had a lot of fun choosing prints to use in this one.

If you’re new to the RBD Block Challenge, we are just starting this free sew along! This is block 2 in the quilt so it’s a great time to join in. This free sew along hosted by Riley Blake Designs will last for several months, with blocks created by different designers, to make a really fabulous sampler quilt!

I’m sewing along this year with my Melody fabrics that are in stores now. You can even see a peek of the cheater fabric from the collection in the photos – I think I might use this as my quilt backing! It’s so fun.
One of my favorite parts of the challenge is seeing all the different blocks from everyone who is sewing along. You can join the #RBDBlockChallenge Facebook Group to check them out! It is so inspirational to see the blocks in different fabrics.

My block is simple to put together! My tips on piecing this block are:
- Make sure your strips of fabric are cut accurately – this will help with piecing and make sure that your pieces line up as you build the block.
- This block uses the Stitch N Flip method for the background fabric corners. When sewing on your marked line, sew just a thread’s width outside that line to make sure when you trim and press those corners that they line up with the strips.
- I didn’t do it for this block, but this little center square would be so cute with a fussy-cut image inside!
