I can’t resist creating cute little things for my sewing space. I mean, it’s just so much more fun to tidy up if you have sweet little places to put things, don’t you think? These cute little Vintage Sheet Fabriflair Bowl and Pincushion were so fun to make up and I love how colorful and cute they are!
Aren’t they fun? I made up one as a little pincushion and one is a perfect little bowl to hold my vintage buttons. And of course they’re all covered in vintage sheets for maximum cuteness.
I used the Indygo Junction Fabriflair kits to make these! Have you seen these fun kits before?
It’s an awesome paper piecing kit that includes pre-cut chipboard pieces that you can cover with fabric and then sew together for cool shapes. I used the Brio Sphere kit for these! The kit includes enough to make two spheres or bowls.
I made both mine up in the bowl style but I changed one of mine into a pincushion! It works perfectly as a little mini pincushion to sit near my sewing machine. This would make such a great set for a friend too!
The kit has complete instructions for making the bowls or spheres. I made a few changes to make mine a pincushion.
Create the outside portion of the bowl and the inside portion, but leave off the center bottom section. You won’t need it.
Glue or sew the pom pom trim around the top edge of the bowl, peeking just over the edge of the fabric. Place the inner bowl inside the outer bowl, making sure the piece is touching the base piece.
Cut a 10″ circle of fabric and sew a gathering stitch around the outer edge. Pull of the threads a little and fill the fabric with fiberfill. Pull up the threads the rest of the way and form a ball.
Glue the ball of fiberfill inside the bowl, making sure it’s all tucked in and centered.
I made the little regular bowl the same way, but instead of adding the fiberfill I put the base of the inner bowl in place.
I cheated just a bit on this one too! I sewed the outer bowl together but after gluing the pom pom trim in place, I glued each inner piece in place, then the bottom piece. It was super quick that way!
Indygo Junction has several other Fabriflair kits to make all sorts of fun things!
A couple of my favorites are this Tree Topper and star ornament . . .
And this cute little Needlecase!
You can really get creative with fabrics and think outside the block on how to use them!
