This summer I have had a blast sharing some cute Summer Inspired embroidery hoops with you – and today is our last hoop in the series! For the last hoop I’ve put together this Let’s Get Lost Summer Bicycle Embroidery Hoop Art. It’s all decorated up with some sweet little flowers and a bunting – so perfect for summer. Or really any time!
And let’s face it – I have no interest in getting on a bike and riding around in a field. But there is something so sweet about that darling basket all filled up with flowers. Makes me want to get a bike. Almost. I think I’ll just keep in stitching them up and admiring their cuteness in fabric form. I’m a lot less likely to hurt myself with this version. (Though I do have a glue gun burn from this project, so maybe not so much.)
I think the hoops in this series make such a fun group together – I can’t wait to hang them up in my craft room. You can find the Hot Air Balloon Hoop here and the Retro Camper hoop here!
But let’s get started on our little bicycle hoop – and don’t worry – I have a free pattern for you too!
You’ll need:
- 8″ Embroidery Hoop
- Fabric for background
- medium weight interfacing (or other stabilizer)
- fusible webbing
- scraps for bicycle pieces
- embroidery floss for flowers and lettering
- disappearing ink marker
- hot glue
- Free Let’s Get Lost Bicycle Pattern
Cut out a piece of fabric larger than your hoop for the background, and cut out all your bicycle pieces. You might need to print out a couple of the patterns in order to get the pieces whole (so they don’t overlap other pieces). I recommend fusing pieces of fusible webbing to the back of your fabric, then cutting out the fabric piece. It will stabilize it and make cutting easier.
Remove the paper backing from the webbing and fuse the bicycle pieces in place. Layer the pieces according to the pattern. Add your interfacing or stabilizer to the back of your background fabric. Stitch all the pieces down with your sewing machine or by hand – using a contrasting thread so it sort of outlines everything. If you are using your sewing machine, you can pop on the free motion foot and just sort of trace everything with stitching. So cute. Trace your lettering with a disappearing ink marker.
Embroider the lettering with a back stitch, then start adding in flowers for your basket. Add a few little strands of grass and more flowers at the base of the bike. You can do any sort of flowers you want, but I kept mine all french knots. Easy peasy.
To finish off your embroidery add fusible webbing to the tops of some little triangles for the bunting. Fuse in place, then stitch a little row across to the top.
Pop everything in the hoop and trim the back. Glue the edges around to the back side of the hoop and you are all done!
If embroidery hoops aren’t you thing – these would be just as cute framed in a set for your wall – you could paint up the frames in fun colors too.
I just love how colorful and fun they all are – but this one might just be my favorite!
I’d love to hear what you think! and I hope you give it a try!

One day I will have to stop just pinning these beautiful ideas of yours and actually try making one! I love the outlined machine stitching look, your bits and pieces are always so pretty and neat I just want to make one right now. Then I look at my piles of half done projects and think I must at least finish some of them before I start something new. Thank goodness for pinterest!
